The six tracks recorded in March 1950 were the very first (10 inch) LP released on the Fantasy label. Tjader had bought his first set of vibes only weeks before the session and was entirely self-taught, but Brubeck encouraged him to bring it along. Listen to Lullaby In Rhythm - the way they phrase the melody line on top of Crotty's walking bass ist unique. Body And Soul has Tjader on bongos - the head could need a bit of tightening, but on the other side it allows some pitch bending you couldn't do on a properly tuned Cuban bongo. This trio had its own unique way of appoaching standards.
